Sweet Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 gal. cucumbers, sliced
    2 c. lime
    8 c. sugar
    7 c. vinegar
    2 c. water
    1 Tbsp. salt
    2 Tbsp. pickling spices
    1 Tbsp. celery seed
Preparation
    Mix lime in 1 gal. of water and soak cucumbers overnight using crockery or enamel ware. (Do not use aluminum containers.) Drain and wash cucumbers; soak in ice water 2 or 3 hours. Mix together sugar, vinegar, water, salt and heat. Place pickling spices and celery seed in a bag made of cheese cloth. Add cucumbers and bagged spices. Cook 40-45 minutes. Remove spice bag and put in clean sterile jars. Seal in jars while still hot.
