Ingredients

4 egg yolks
4 egg whites
grated rind of 1 lemon
1 lb. sifted powdered sugar
1 lb. (3 1/2 c. unsifted or 4 c. sifted) flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
anise seed
Preparation

Beat yolks until light and thick.
Beat whites until dry. Combine whites and yolks and add grated lemon rind.
Gradually add sifted 10x sugar, beating continually.
Add flour sifted with baking powder and salt.
Use flour sparingly as it may not require all of it.
Knead well; cover closely.
Chill several hours.
