Swirled Apple Rings - cooking recipe

1 1/2 c. sifted self-rising flour
1/2 c. Crisco shortening
1/2 c. milk
1 stick margarine
2 c. sugar
2 c. water
2 c. diced (fine) cooking apples
1 tsp. cinnamon
vanilla ice cream
Preparation

Heat oven to 350\u00b0.
Melt margarine in a 13 x 9 x 12-inch baking pan (no glass pans).
In a saucepan, heat sugar and water until sugar dissolves.
Set aside.
Cut Crisco into flour until crumbly.
Add mix and stir until dough leaves the sides of the bowl.
Turn out onto a floured board and knead until just smooth. Roll into a rectangle (3/16-inch thick).
Mix cinnamon and apples together.
Spread evenly onto dough.
Roll up like a jelly roll. Slice into 18 slices.
Place in baking pan on melted butter.
Pour sugar water slowly over apples.
Bake 50 minutes.
This will look like too much liquid, but crust will absorb it.
Serve with ice cream.
