Four Day Sour Cream Coconut Cake - cooking recipe

1 (18 oz.) pkg. butter flavored cake mix
2 c. sugar
1 (16 oz.) pkg. sour cream
1 (12 oz.) pkg. frozen coconut, thawed
1 1/2 c. Cool Whip
Preparation

Prepare cake mix according to package directions, making one 9 x 13-inch layer.
When cool, split layer and make 2 layers. Combine sugar, sour cream and coconut, blending well.
Chill. Reserve 1 cup sour cream mixture for frosting.
Spread remainder between layers.
