Quick Doughnuts - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 eggs
    1 c. sugar
    1/4 tsp. nutmeg
    3 Tbsp. melted shortening or oil
    6 1/2 c. self-rising flour
    1 c. buttermilk
Preparation
    Beat eggs until thick and lemon colored.
    Gradually beat in sugar and nutmeg.
    Blend in shortening.
    Add flour alternately with milk, using only enough flour to make a soft dough.
    Turn out on lightly floured board and knead gently for 30 seconds.
    Roll 1/2-inch thick.
    Cut with floured doughnut cutter.
    Fry in deep fat until brown, about 1 1/2 minutes on each side.
    Drain well. While warm, coat with granulated sugar or confectioners sugar. Makes approximately 3 dozen.
