Candy Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    36 pink wintergreen candies
    1 1/4 c. sweet or whole milk
    1/2 c. shortening
    1 c. granulated sugar
    2 1/2 c. cake flour
    2 tsp. baking powder
    1/4 tsp. salt
    4 egg whites, stiffly beaten
Preparation
    Soak candies in milk overnight or until dissolved. Cream the shortening and sugar. Add milk mixture alternately with dry ingredients, cake flour, baking powder and salt. Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites.
    Pour batter into two 9-inch pans that have been lightly greased and dusted with flour.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for 30 minutes or until cake springs back to the touch.
