Cucumber Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. lime
    2 gal. water
    8 lb. cucumbers
    2 qt. white vinegar
    9 c. sugar
    2 Tbsp. salt
    1 Tbsp. whole cloves
    1 Tbsp. whole allspice
    1 Tbsp. celery seed
Preparation
    Dissolve lime in 2 gallons of water and add cucumbers, which have been scrubbed and cut into 1/2-inch slices.
    Soak for 24 hours, stirring occasionally.
    Make a picking solution of vinegar, sugar, salt, cloves, allspice and celery seed (tie the last 3 up in a cloth).
    Soak cucumbers in this solution for 3 hours, then boil for 30 minutes.
    Put into hot jars and seal.
    Makes 12 to 14 pints.
