Cathy'S Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 qt. cucumbers
    6 medium onions
    2 green peppers, chopped
    1/2 c. salt
    5 c. sugar
    3 c. cider vinegar
    1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
    1 1/2 tsp. celery seed
    2 Tbsp. mustard seed
Preparation
    Do not pare cucumbers.
    Slice thin.
    Add onions, peppers and salt.
    Cover with cracked ice.
    Let melt thoroughly for three hours.
    Drain well.
    Combine remaining ingredients.
    Pour over cucumber mixture.
    Boil one minute.
    Simmer to keep hot while filling sterilized jars.
    Leave 1/2-inch at top.
    Cool on cake rack.
    Makes 8 pints.
