Barbecued Spareribs - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 garlic cloves, crushed
    3 Tbsp. dark soy sauce
    2 Tbsp. dry sherry or Chinese rice wine
    1 tsp. freshly grated ginger
    1/2 Tbsp. brown sugar
    1/2 Tbsp. sesame oil
    1/2 tsp. 5-spice powder*
    1 Tbsp. hoisin sauce
    1 tsp. pepper sauce (such as Tabasco or Mexican hot sauce)
    1 Tbsp. catsup
    1 (2 lb.) side of pork spareribs, cut into 2 to 3 pieces.
