Republican Cake - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1/2 c. butter
1 c. sugar
2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. soda
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1/2 c. milk
4 egg whites
lemon or vanilla extract
Preparation

Cream butter and sugar.
Sift together flour, soda and cream of tartar and add alternately with milk to sugar mixture.
Beat whites and fold into mixture.
Flavor to taste.
Bake in layers at 350\u00b0 for 25 to 30 minutes until done in middle.
Cool.
Spread with jelly and dust with 10x sugar.
