Hot Water Gingerbread - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
1 egg
1 c. molasses
2 1/2 c. sifted flour
1 1/2 tsp. soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. salt (for butter) or 1 scant tsp. (for shortening)
1 c. hot water (not boiling)
Preparation

Cream
shortening and sugar.
Add beaten egg, molasses, then dry ingredients which have been sifted together.
Add hot water last and beat until smooth.
Bake in greased shallow pan for
35 minutes in moderate oven (325\u00b0 to 350\u00b0).
Serve warm. Gingerbread will be very light and fluffy.
