1 c. shortening
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. white sugar
3 eggs
4 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla

Preparation

Combine all ingredients, except dates, to make a dough.
Cut dates in small pieces and cook in 1/2 cup sugar and 1/2 cup water until thick; cool.
Roll out dough and spread with date filling; roll jelly roll style and freeze.
When frozen, cut in 1/8-inch slices and bake at 350\u00b0 for 8 to 10 minutes.
Watch closely, they burn easily.
