Old-Timey Egg Custard - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    6 large eggs
    1 1/2 c. sugar
    1 Tbsp. vanilla
    3 c. milk
    6 Tbsp. butter
    pinch of salt
    nutmeg (on top, if desired)
    1 large or 2 small prepared pie crust(s)
Preparation
    Put milk and butter in a heavy saucepan.
    Heat to scalding and remove from heat.
    Beat whole eggs (slightly).
    Add sifted sugar, a little at a time, stirring all the while.
    Add vanilla; then stir in the milk.
    Put in unbaked crust and bake at 400\u00b0 until firm in the middle.
    Makes 2 small pies or 1 large pie.
