First Snow Hash - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 (5 lb.) picnic ham
    turnips, cut
    onions, cut
    carrots, cut
    potatoes, cut
    cabbage, cut
    salt
    pepper
Preparation
    Simmer ham with enough water to cover for 4 hours.
    Add turnips, onions, carrots and potatoes; simmer in broth until done. Add cabbage last.
    It takes less time to cook cabbage.
    Salt and pepper to taste.
    Slice ham.
    Surround with vegetables.
    Thicken juice and pour over all.
    Serve with biscuits.
