Aunt Judy'S Chicken `N' Dumplings - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 whole chicken or 4 chicken breasts
    1 Tbsp. salt
    3 c. flour
    3 tsp. baking powder
    3 Tbsp. (rounded) shortening
    pepper to taste
    milk
    butter
Preparation
    Cook chicken and salt in 3 quarts of water. Cook until done. Remove chicken; debone and remove skin. Return chicken to broth. Take 3 cups of flour, add baking powder and cut in shortening. Add broth (hot) or milk. Stir until dough forms. Roll dough out on a floured board, fairly thin, 1/8-inch and no more than 1/4-inch. Cut into 4-inch squares and brush tops with melted butter. Drop dough into boiling broth; reduce heat to simmer and cover with lid. Cook 15 minutes without removing lid. Check; cook longer if needed. Add 1 cup milk and stir. Let sit after cooking.
