Meringue Torte - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. sugar
4 egg yolks
1 1/3 c. cake flour, sifted 3 times
1 1/3 tsp. baking powder
5 Tbsp. milk
1/2 tsp. vanilla or almond flavoring
4 egg whites
1/8 tsp. cream of tartar
1 c. sugar
Preparation

Cream butter; beat in 1/2 cup sugar and egg yolks, one at a time.
Mix and sift flour and baking powder.
Add alternately with milk to first mixture.
Add flavoring.
Spread in two shallow cake pans.
Beat egg whites until stiff; add cream of tartar and beat in 1 cup sugar slowly.
Spread over cakes (leave 1-inch from edge of pan).
Sprinkle with chopped nuts or coconut.
Bake for 25 minutes at 250\u00b0, then 20 minutes longer at 350\u00b0.
Spread with whipped cream and crushed pineapple.
