Lilias Upton'S Prize Winning English Toffee - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. butter or margarine, less 1 inch cut off of one cube
    2 c. sugar
    1 c. broken, blanched almonds or slivered almonds
    2 c. chocolate chips
    1 c. finely chopped walnuts
Preparation
    Melt butter and add sugar.
    Bring to a boil.
    Stir for 5 minutes.
    Add 1 cup of the almonds.
    Boil approximately 7 minutes to 289\u00b0.
    Line cookie sheet (15 x 12-inch) with wax paper and spread toffee on the cookie sheet.
    Let cool.
    Melt 1 cup chocolate chips and spread over the top.
    Sprinkle with 1/2 cup finely chopped walnuts.
    Press walnuts in the wax paper if necessary. When cool, turn toffee over and repeat process with additional 1 cup chocolate chips and another 1/2 cup of finely chopped walnuts.
