Candy Canes - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. shortening (1/2 butter)
    1 c. sifted powdered sugar
    1 egg
    1 1/2 tsp. almond extract
    1 tsp. vanilla
    2 1/2 c. sifted flour
    1 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. red food coloring
Preparation
    Mix together shortening and sugar until creamy.
    Add egg, almond extract and vanilla.
    Gradually add flour and salt; mix well.
    Divide dough.
    Blend into 1/2 of dough the red food coloring.
    Twist part white and part red dough enough to make a small candy cane.
    Bake on ungreased cookie sheet for 9 minutes, until lightly brown.
    Sprinkle with powdered sugar when cool. Makes approximately 4 dozen.
