Holiday Spiced Wine - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 qt. water
    3 c. sugar
    12 whole cloves
    4-inch stick cinnamon
    6 whole allspice
    1/2 tsp. powdered sugar
    1 (4/5 qt.) bottle Burgundy or Claret
    1 orange rind
    1 lemon rind
    2 c. orange juice
    1 c. lemon juice
Preparation
    Combine water, sugar, spices, orange and lemon rinds, in a saucepan.
    Bring to a boil, stirring, until the sugar is dissolved; simmer 10 minutes.
    Remove from heat and let stand 1 hour.
    Strain. Add orange and lemon juice and wine; heat gently.
    Do not boil. Serve hot in pottery mugs or coffee mugs.
    Makes about 2 1/2 quarts.
