Toffee Crunch Bars - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 cup shortening
    1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
    1 egg
    1 tsp vanilla
    2 cups sifted flour
    1/2 tsp salt
    1 pkg semi-sweet chocolate, melted over hot water
    1/2 cup chopped nutmeats
Preparation
    Cream together shortening and brown sugar.
    Beat in egg and vanilla.
    Add four and salt.
    Spread dough in two 8x8x2-inch pans. Bake in moderate oven for 15 minutes or until lightly browned. remove from oven, spread immediately with chocolate and sprinkle with nutmeats.
    Cool.
    Cut into bars or squares.
    Makes 32 2-inch sqares.
