Orange Fruit Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/2 c. white sugar
    3/4 c. shortening
    3 eggs
    1 1/2 tsp. soda in 1 c. buttermilk
    3 c. sifted flour
    1 tsp. salt
    1 1/2 c. chopped dates, mixed with a little flour
    1 c. chopped nuts
    grated rind of 2 oranges
Preparation
    Cream shortening, sugar and eggs (one at a time) and grated orange rind. Then add nuts, flour and salt, sifted together, alternately with sugar and sour milk, add flour last, then dates. Bake for 1 hour at 350\u00b0 or 2 hours at 300\u00b0.
