Devil'S Food Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. sifted flour
    1 tsp. soda
    3/4 tsp. salt
    1/2 c. vegetable shortening
    1 1/3 c. sugar
    2 eggs (unbeaten)
    2 to 3 sq. unsweetened chocolate, melted
    1 c. plus 2 Tbsp. milk
    1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation
    Sift flour once; measure and add soda, salt and 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder and sift.
    Cream the shortening.
    Add sugar gradually and cream until light and fluffy.
    Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each.
    Add chocolate and blend.
    Add flour alternately with milk, beating well after each addition. Add vanilla.
    Turn into two 9-inch pans lined on bottom with foil. Bake in moderate oven for 30 minutes.
    Spread with icing as desired.
