Pappy'S Sweet Pickles - cooking recipe
Ingredients

whole cucumbers
4 Tbsp. plain salt (not iodized)
2 tsp. alum
2 tsp. pickling spices
4 c. white vinegar
5 c. sugar
Preparation

Fill gallon jar with washed whole cucumbers.
Add salt, alum and pickling spices.
Now pour vinegar (5%) over cucumbers. Finish filling jar with water.
Put lid on tight and shake jar until all is dissolved.
Date jar and let stand for 2 or 3 weeks. Drain all liquid from pickles, saving pickling spices, to add back to pickles.
Chunk or slice pickles, then add sugar over the pickles and shake jar until all sugar turns to liquid.
Let stand 2 or 3 days, then \"eat them up\".
You do not have to keep them in the refrigerator.
