Penuche Squares - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/4 c. butter
    1 c. brown sugar
    1 egg
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 c. sifted flour
    1 tsp. baking powder
    6 oz. pkg. chocolate or butterscotch chips
    1/2 c. walnuts or pecans, chopped
Preparation
    Melt butter.
    Cool slightly; beat in brown sugar.
    Add egg, flour and vanilla until light and fluffy.
    Lightly stir in chocolate or butterscotch bits.
    Spread evenly in greased 8-inch pan.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for 25 to 30 minutes; do not overbake.
    Cool and cut into squares.
