Old Fashioned Bakewell Cream Biscuits - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 c. sifted flour
    4 tsp. Bakewell cream
    2 tsp. soda
    1 tsp. salt
    1/2 c. shortening
    1 1/2 c. milk
Preparation
    This amount makes 24 biscuits, but you may halve it easily. Mix and sift first 4 ingredients.
    Add shortening and cut in, using pastry blender or 2 knives.
    Use a vegetable shortening for these biscuits.
    Add milk all at once, stir quickly with a fork to make a soft dough.
    Turn onto a floured board; knead 5 to 6 times. Roll out 1/2 inch or more thick.
    Cut with biscuit cutter, place on ungreased cookie sheet.
    Top each with a little butter or milk. Bake at 475\u00b0 for 5 minutes.
    Turn off heat and continue to bake on stored heat until golden brown.
