Ingredients

1 1/2 c. sifted flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. shortening
1 1/4 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 c. cocoa
1 c. boiling water
3 tsp. vanilla
2 Tbsp. powdered sugar
3 1/2 pt. whipping cream
1/3 c. butter
1/2 c. scalded milk
1 box confectioners sugar
pinch of salt
Preparation

Sift flour, salt, baking powder and baking soda together.
In a separate bowl, work shortening, 1 1/4 cup sugar and eggs, one at a time, with spoon until soft.
Mix 1/2 cup cocoa, boiling water and 1 teaspoon of vanilla.
Add alternately with dry ingredients. Bake in 2 layers at 350\u00b0.
Cool and split layers.
