Ingredients

4 c. flour
2 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
1 c. butter
2 Tbsp. melted Crisco
1 c. cream
1 c. almonds and walnuts, chopped
1/4 c. anise seed
4 eggs
Preparation

Beat eggs.
Add cream, melted butter, Crisco, vanilla, anise and nuts.
Add dry ingredients.
Knead on dry board.
Shape small amount into small roll; flatten slightly.
Bake in moderate oven (350\u00b0) approximately 10 to 12 minutes.
Cut diagonally while still warm.
Put back in warm oven to dry out until crispy; oven is turned off.
