Scallop Casserole - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. scallops
    1/2 c. sherry
    1/2 tsp. salt
    dash of pepper
    3 Tbsp. butter
    3 Tbsp. flour
    1/2 c. heavy cream
    1 oz. Cheddar cheese, shredded
    1/2 c. soft bread crumbs
    1 Tbsp. melted butter (for bread crumbs)
Preparation
    Put scallops in a saucepan with sherry, salt and pepper. Bring to a boil and simmer, covered, for 10 minutes. Drain, reserving 1 cup broth.
    Melt butter and blend in flour.
    Add reserved broth and heavy cream. Cook, stirring constantly, until thickened. Stir in cheese and scallops.
    Put in 6 shells or a shallow baking dish. Top with buttered bread crumbs and bake in a preheated hot oven at 400\u00b0 for 10 minutes. Makes 6 servings.
