Beets And Apples - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. fresh beets
    1 tsp. salt
    1/4 c. firmly packed brown sugar
    1 1/2 Tbsp. cornstarch
    2 Tbsp. wine vinegar
    2 medium tart apples, cut into thin wedges
Preparation
    Cut top from beets (leave 1-inch of stem). Cook beets in boiling salt water for 15 to 20 minutes, until just tender. Drain, reserving 2 cups of the liquid.
    Cool beets until you can slip off skins.
    Cut into thin slices.
