Candy Cane Cookies - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. shortening
    1/2 c. margarine
    1 c. powdered sugar
    1 egg
    1 1/2 tsp. almond extract
    1 tsp. vanilla
    2 1/2 c. flour
    1 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. red food coloring
    1/2 c. crushed peppermint candy
    1/2 c. sugar
Preparation
    Mix shortening, margarine, sugar, egg and flavoring.
    Add flour and salt; mix well.
    Divide dough in half.
    Color 1 half with red coloring.
    Roll a 4-inch strip, using 1 teaspoon of dough, from each color.
    For smooth, even strips, roll on floured board.
    Place strips, side by side, pressing lightly together and twist.
