Navy Bean Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 lb. navy beans, soak overnight
    1 1/2 lb. smoked ham hock
    4 qt. water
    1 chopped onion
    1 Tbsp. butter
    salt and pepper to taste
Preparation
    Saute onion and butter.
    Cook until tender, not mushy, the beans, ham and water.
    Add sauteed onion and butter.
    Add salt and pepper to taste.
