Tom Thumb Squares - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. shortening
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/2 c. brown sugar
    1 c. flour
    1 c. brown sugar
    1 tsp. vanilla
    2 eggs, well beaten
    2 Tbsp. flour
    1 c. flake coconut
    1/2 tsp. baking powder
    1 c. chopped nuts
Preparation
    Combine shortening, salt and 1/2 cup brown sugar.
    Cream thoroughly.
    Add 1 cup flour and blend.
    Spread this mixture in an 8 x 12-inch pan (greased).
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for 15 minutes or less. Check when light brown.
    Take out of oven and add 1 cup brown sugar and vanilla to beaten eggs.
    Beat until foamy.
    Add 2 tablespoons flour, baking powder, coconut and nuts.
    Blend and spread over first mixture.
    Return to oven and bake 25 minutes until brown. Cool and cut into squares.
