Old Fashioned Beef Stew - cooking recipe
Ingredients

2 lb. beef, cut into 1-inch pieces
2 large onions, sliced
3 large carrots, sliced
3 celery stalks, sliced
1 bay leaf
2 c. beef stock or 2 c. water and 3 beef bouillon cubes
1 c. red wine
1 tsp. salt
pepper to taste
1 Tbsp. cornstarch, mixed in 1/4 c. cold water
Preparation

In large saucepan, saute beef with 1/4 cup of beef stock on low heat until lightly browned.
Add onions, carrots, celery, bay leaf, remaining stock and wine.
Bring to gentle boil and season with salt and pepper.
Cover and simmer 1 to 1 1/2 hours or until beef is tender, stirring occasionally.
Add cornstarch mixture and cook for another five minutes.
Serve over rice or noodles.
Also great as is with bread as a complement.
