Caramels - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 can Eagle Brand milk
    1 lb. brown sugar
    1 c. white Karo syrup
    1/2 lb. butter or margarine
    1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation
    Mix thoroughly; stir constantly with a wooden spoon on medium to slow fire.
    Cook to hard ball stage or so you can chew it.
    Add nuts if desired and vanilla and pour into a greased 9 x 11-inch pan.
    Let cool.
    Cut into strips and then into pieces and wrap with wax paper.
    Takes about 25 minutes of cooking time.
