Ingredients

2 1/4 c. sifted cake flour
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 1/2 tsp. double-acting baking powder
1 tsp. salt
3/4 c. Crisco
1/2 c. milk
1 tsp. orange extract
1/2 tsp. almond extract
1 unbeaten egg
Preparation

Sift the first 4 ingredients; add remaining ingredients.
Beat 200 strokes on low speed of mixer (2 minutes by hand).
Scrape bowl often.
Add 1/4 cup milk and 2 unbeaten eggs.
Beat 200 strokes (same as before).
Pour into 2 (9-inch) round Crisco-coated layer pans (1 1/2-inches deep).
Bake until cakes test done.
Cool; remove from pans.
