Holiday Divinity - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. sugar
    1/2 c. light corn syrup
    1 c. coarsely chopped nuts
    1/4 c. minced preserved ginger (optional)
    1/2 c. water
    2 egg whites
    1/4 c. chopped candied cherries
Preparation
    In heavy medium saucepan, over low heat, cook and stir sugar, water and corn syrup until sugar dissolves.
    Increase heat to medium.
    Cook, without stirring, until a candy thermometer registers 268\u00b0 (hard ball stage) or until small amount dropped into very cold water forms a ball.
