Date Pinwheels - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. dates
    1/2 c. sugar
    1 c. nutmeats
    1/2 c. water
    1 c. shortening
    2 c. sugar (1 c. may be brown sugar)
    3 eggs
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 tsp. soda
    1 tsp. baking powder
    1 Tbsp. salt
    4 c. flour
Preparation
    Cut dates in pieces; cook with 1/2 cup sugar, water and nutmeats until thickened.
    Cool.
    Meanwhile, blend shortening with sugars.
    Add beaten eggs, vanilla and dry ingredients, which have been sifted together.
    Roll dough 1/2 to 1/4 inch thickness and spread with filling.
    Roll like jelly roll and store in refrigerator 4 hours.
    Slice and bake at 400\u00b0 for 8 minutes.
