Queen Elizabeth Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. boiling water
    1 c. chopped dates
    1 tsp. soda
    1 c. granulated sugar
    1/4 c. butter
    1 beaten egg
    1 1/2 c. sifted flour
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1/3 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. baking powder
    1/2 c. chopped nuts
Preparation
    Pour 1 cup boiling water over 1 cup chopped dates and add soda.
    Let stand while the following is mixed in the usual manner: sugar, butter, egg, flour, vanilla, salt, baking powder and nuts. Add these ingredients to the date mixture.
    Pour into a 9 x 12-inch pan.
    Bake 35 minutes at 350\u00b0.
