Soft Gingerbread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. shortening
    1/2 c. sugar
    1 egg, beaten well
    2 1/2 c. flour
    1 1/2 tsp. soda
    1 tsp. cinnamon
    1 tsp. cloves
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 c. Brer Rabbit molasses
    1 c. hot water
Preparation
    Cream the shortening, sugar and egg.
    Stir flour, soda, cinnamon, cloves and salt together.
    Add to the creamed mixture. Combine the molasses and water; add to the rest of the ingredients.
    Bake in 8 x 8 x 2-inch greased and floured pan. Bake at 350\u00b0 for 20 to 30 minutes.
    This is good served with raisin sauce or lemon sauce.
