Stack Cake - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1 lb. dried apples
1 c. brown sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. allspice
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. ground cloves
2 c. sugar
1 c. shortening
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. ginger
4 c. all-purpose flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1 c. buttermilk
3 eggs
1 Tbsp. confectioners sugar
Preparation

Put dried apples in heavy pan.
Cover with water and cook with lid on for 15 minutes, adding a little water if needed to keep apples from sticking.
Remove from heat.
Mash with fork and stir in brown sugar, cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg and cloves.
Return to heat and simmer, stirring, until fruit is soft, thick and spicy. Turn off heat and let pot sit, covered, until ready to use.
