Date Nut Bread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. pitted dates, chopped fine
    1 1/2 c. boiling water
    2 Tbsp. shortening
    1 c. sugar
    1 egg
    2 1/2 c. flour
    1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
    2 tsp. baking powder
    1/2 to 1 c. nuts
    1/2 tsp. vanilla
Preparation
    Cut up dates into small pieces.
    Put dates and shortening into large bowl and pour boiling water over them.
    Let mixture sit for 5 minutes.
    Add all other ingredients.
    Mix just until blended. Bake at 325\u00b0 for 45 minutes or until done in 2 greased loaf pans. After baking, cool on wire rack.
