Old Southern Corn Bread - cooking recipe

2 c. self-rising cornmeal
1 c. self-rising flour
1/2 c. sugar
3 Tbsp. bacon drippings
2 eggs, beaten
2 c. buttermilk
2 Tbsp. bacon drippings
Preparation

Combine cornmeal, flour and sugar in medium bowl; mix well. Add 3 tablespoons bacon drippings, eggs and buttermilk; mix well. Heat remaining 2 tablespoons bacon drippings in 10-inch cast-iron skillet until sizzling hot.
Pour batter into skillet.
Cook over medium heat until batter is bubbly.
Bake at 400\u00b0 for 35 to 45 minutes or until brown.
Yield:
10 servings.
