Green Tomato Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 qt. sliced tomatoes
    3 medium onions, thinly sliced
    1/4 c. salt
    ice water
    3/4 qt. vinegar
    3 c. sugar
    1 tsp. celery seed
    1 tsp. mustard seed
Preparation
    Add salt to sliced tomatoes and onions.
    Cover with ice water; let stand 1 hour.
    In large pot, combine vinegar, sugar, celery and mustard seed.
    Bring to boil.
    Drain tomatoes and onions; rinse.
    Add to vinegar; let simmer.
    Do not boil.
    Pack in hot, sterile jars and seal.
    Makes about 5 pints.
    You can add a little hot pepper if you would like to spice them up.
