Wassail - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/3 c. brown sugar
    1/4 tsp. ginger
    1/4 tsp. nutmeg
    1/8 tsp. cloves
    1 c. dry sherry
    1 qt. ale or strong dark beer
    1/3 c. cognac (optional)
    1 (18 oz.) jar crab apples, drained
Preparation
    In a large saucepan, heat sugar, spices, sherry and ale.
    If desired, add cognac just before removing from heat.
    Pour over crab apples in serving bowl.
    Makes ten 1/2 cup servings.
