Iceberg Dill Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 gal. whole dill pickles
    5 lb. sugar
    1 pt. white vinegar
    1 pkg. pickling spices
    4 cloves garlic, split
Preparation
    Drain pickles and soak in ice water for 2 hours.
    Drain on several
    layers
    paper.
    Slice pickles in half lengthwise, then slice
    into
    3/4-inch pieces.
    While soaking, mix sugar, vinegar, spice and garlic.
    Pour over pickles and let stand 5 days.\tStir each
    day.\tPut in jars and seal.
    Use plastic or enamel pans.
