Real Bread And Butter Pudding - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. raisins
    5 slices day old white bread
    3 Tbsp. butter or margarine, softened
    2 c. milk or half and half
    1/2 c. sugar
    1 tsp. vanilla extract
    2 eggs
    1/2 c. applesauce
    1/8 to 1/4 tsp. nutmeg and/or cinnamon
Preparation
    Preheat oven to 350\u00b0.
    Cut bread into cubes.
    Heat the milk, sugar and margarine until steaming.
    Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla.
    Add raisins and nutmeg and/or cinnamon.
    In mixing bowl, beat eggs; pour the mixture over the bread.
    Mix lightly; add applesauce.
    Bake, uncovered, for 25 minutes or until top is brown. Serve warm with whipped topping, ice cream or rum sauce.
