Sweet Dill Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 pkg. unpeeled cucumbers, sliced
    1 pt. salt
    3 qt. boiling water
    2 tsp. alum
    2 tsp. celery seed
    2 1/2 qt. vinegar
    5 stalks dill
    12 c. sugar
Preparation
    Place cucumbers and 1 pint salt in 3 quarts boiling water.
    Let stand 1 week.
    Drain; cover with boiling water and let stand 24 hours.
    Drain.
    Add alum; cover with boiling water and let stand 24 hours.
    Add celery seed, vinegar, dill and 3 cups sugar and let stand without heating for 24 hours.
    Keep this syrup when draining. Add 2 cups sugar and let stand 24 hours.
    Drain syrup; bring to boil, add 3 cups sugar and let stand 24 hours.
    Drain syrup; bring to boil, add 4 cups sugar and let stand 24 hours.
    Bring to boil and can.
    Add the cucumbers to each step.
