1015 Surprise Casserole - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/4 c. + 2 Tbsp. butter
    3 (1015) onions, chopped
    2 c. grated Swiss cheese
    1 c. crushed crackers
    3/4 c. cream
    1/8 tsp. black pepper
    2 eggs
    1 tsp. salt
Preparation
    Preheat oven to 350\u00b0.
    Melt 3/4 cup butter in skillet and saute onions until tender.
    Place half the onion mixture in a 1 1/2-quart deep dish.
    Sprinkle 1 cup cheese and 1/2 cup cracker crumbs over the onions.
    Repeat layers of onions and cheese.
    Beat eggs; add cream, salt and pepper.
    Pour over onion mixture.
    Melt 2 tablespoons butter; add 1/2 cup crumbs.
    Lightly brown, then sprinkle toasted crumbs over casserole.
    Bake 25 minutes.
