Ingredients

1 c. Crisco
3 c. sugar
2 tsp. vanilla
5 large eggs
1 c. buttermilk
1/2 tsp. baking soda
3 c. flour
Preparation

Beat first 3 ingredients together at high speed until mixture looks like ice cream.
Throughly beat in eggs, one at a time.
Put buttermilk and soda in 1-pint measure cup and mix together.
By hand, stir in the flour in several additions into the cream mixture.
Alternate with buttermilk mixture and mix only until smooth.
Pour into greased pan.
Bake at 325\u00b0 for 1 hour and 15 minutes.
Do not open oven door during first hour.
