Ingredients

1/4 c. milk
1 c. brown sugar, packed
1/4 c. butter or margarine
1 1/2 c. milk
1/4 c. flour
4 eggs, separated
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/4 tsp. cream of tartar
1 baked pie shell
Preparation

Put brown sugar and butter in heavy saucepan.
Add 1/4 cup milk.
Start at low temperature.
Cook until it has a caramel look.
Add 1 1/2 cups milk, egg yolks and flour.
(I use an electric mixer to beat the mixture.)
I cook it until thick. Remove from heat and add vanilla. Pour in 9-inch pie pan.
